FROM OFFICER-IN-CHARGE'S DESK

As per the mission of the Government of West Bengal to allow access to higher education to the maximum number of students even to the remotest parts of the state, twenty new government general degree colleges were established in the last (2015-2016) academic session. Kaliganj Government College was one of these twenty colleges and one of the four new colleges in the district of Nadia. Set according to the government order [No 1027-Edn (A/NGC)/10M-10/13 dated 04.12.13], the college is set in an area of five acres.
Affiliated to the University of Kalyani, the college offers Honours Courses in six subjects, four in Humanities (Bengali, English, Sanskrit and History) and two in Science (Botany and Physiology). It is also offering Pass Courses in both Humanities (Bengali, English, Sanskrit and History) and Science (Botany, Physiology, Zoology and Chemistry). The opening of a new government college in Debagram area in a prime location beside National Highway 34 has generated unprecedented interest among local people. The local students who had to travel more than 50 kilometers to get admission in the nearest government college (Krishnagar Government College) can now avail the benefits of studying in a government college. We have completed our first year, if we dare to say so, with certain degree of success. However, there is no luxury of being complacent as we have indeed “miles to go before [we] sleep”. As we enter into our sophomore year, we look forward to the continuation of unstinted help and good wishes showered on us since the inception of the college by all the stakeholders.
